Kamaz may open new Russia-based Kama-1 EVs plant in 2024–2025

MOSCOW, Sep 23 (PRIME) -- Russian truck maker Kamaz is considering launching a new plant in 2024–2025 to produce light electric vehicles (EVs) Kama-1, Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Alexander Morozov said in an interview with PRIME, released on Thursday.

“Kamaz has experience of electric buses production, and they are discussing launching of the plant in 2024–2025. I should say that Moscow is the main interested party and the driver of the process,” he said.

Morozov added that the company will choose a site for the new facility soon after the shareholders make a decision.

Russia will begin construction of debut plants for EV components and fuel cell vehicles until 2024.

“We will have plants for production of fuel cells, power electronics, batteries. We lack all of the components now… And we should strike investment contracts until 2024, which means that construction of the plants will start and the investors will accept relevant obligations toward the state,” he said.
